Hendrik van Balen (Antwerp, 1575 - Antwerp, 1632) was a Flemish Baroque painter. He was a pupil of Adam van Noort and studied art while travelling in Italy. He was the teacher of his son Johannes (Jan van Balen), Anthony van Dyck and Frans Snyders and was also a contemporary of many of the other famous Flemish artists. In 1592 he became a master in the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke.
