Imbued with the luminous light of a warm spring day, La Table, printemps, focusses on one of the most important recurring subjects within Henri le Sidaner’s œuvre: that of the invitingly adorned table set within the gardens of his home in Gerberoy. The artist visited Gerberoy for the first time in March 1901 and moved into rented accommodation in June of that year before purchasing a house there in 1904. Over the following years he oversaw extensive work on the property, turning the house and gardens into a haven which provided endless inspiration for his paintings. His depictions of tables prepared for a meal within the gardens of his home, captured in various permutations of light and season, are amongst some of the artist’s most significant and visually appealing works.
