![Eugenio Alvarez Dumont - Malasaña and Daughter Fighting the French [1887]](http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8644/15683342347_eacbf5fb6e_o.jpg)
Awarded third medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1887, the picture honours two legendary heroes who achieved more glory in the struggle of the people of Madrid against the French troops during the War of Independence. This picture is probably the best testimony of the most characteristic aspect of the production of Eugenio Alvarez Dumont, who, along with his brother Cesar, went on to become true specialists in painting battle scenes and military and particularly in matters relating to the War Independence.
