![Unknown German Artist - Edzard the Great, Count of East Friesland [18th century]](http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5613/15717521675_a1e010ab27_o.jpg)
This portrait is a variant of a painting in the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte in Oldenburg, Germany, which is traditionally identified as Edzard (Cirksena) the Great, Count of East Friesland (1462–1528). On the sitter's hat is a brooch with what may be an eagle on it, symbol of the Cirksena family. Scientific analysis of the painting’s wood panel support and the pigments used have shown that it was made in the 18th century.
