Leopold Carl Müller - An Innocent Smile [1885]

Leopold Carl Müller (Dresden, December 9, 1834 - Weidilingau, August 4, 1892) was an Austrian genre painter. Obliged to support his family after his father's death, he worked eight years as an illustrator for the Vienna Figaro. Continuing his studies subsequently, he repeatedly visited Italy and Egypt, and made his name favourably known through a series of scenes from popular life in Italy and Hungary. Later he displayed his coloristic talent to greater advantage in oriental subjects.

[Sold for £7,500 at Sotheby’s, London - Oil on canvas, 31.5 x 22 cm]
